Wheelies at the Museum

“When we were planning the spring catalog, I came across a Brooklyn Cruiser parked in SoHo,” said Emmanuel Plat, merchandising director of the retail division of the Museum of Modern Art, explaining how a bright red bicycle happened to be among the MoMA Store’s latest offerings. “We liked the idea of supporting a local company with an attractive and affordable bike that is great for commuting.”
Brooklyn Cruiser was founded two years ago in Williamsburg by Ryan Zagata, who designed the red bike with Grant Petersen, taking their inspiration from 1950s Raleighs. The step-through style, with cream-colored tires, sells for $580 (the wooden crate is $80 extra). The red color is exclusive to the museum and available only in a limited edition of 15; a black option is not limited.
